Slicer
The free app that turns your 3D file into instructions your printer follows. You'll load PrinterPilot's settings into it. Common ones: Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, Cura, PrusaSlicer.
3D file (STL · OBJ · 3MF)
The shape you want to print. You download these from model sites — including the Browse Prints gallery here, Printables, or MakerWorld.
FDM vs. resin
FDM printers melt a plastic filament — that's most home printers (Bambu, Prusa, Ender). Resin printers cure liquid with light. If you're not sure, you almost certainly have FDM.
Layer height
How thick each printed layer is. Smaller is smoother but slower; 0.2 mm is the everyday default.
Infill
How solid the inside of the print is. 15% is light and fast; higher means stronger and heavier.
Walls (perimeters)
How many solid outlines the printer traces around each layer. More walls = a stronger part.
Supports
Temporary scaffolding the printer adds under overhanging parts so they don't droop. You snap it off after printing.
Retraction
The printer briefly pulling the filament back when it moves, so it doesn't leave thin stringy hairs across the print.
Bed adhesion (skirt · brim · raft)
Tricks that help the first layer stick to the print bed so corners don't lift. A brim is a thin flange around the base.
Nozzle & bed temperature
How hot the printing tip and the build plate get. Different plastics need different heat — PLA runs cooler, ABS hotter.
